Good news!
Posted on 09/02/10 by blogAt last, I visited a site today to complete an audit and I struggled to find any issues – even with my ‘picky’ head on!!
It was a breath of fresh air to find such good quality, and it was a pleasure to go back to the customer and give them the good news. From what she said, I believe she will be calling the same PAT company next year.
If anyone wants the contact details of the PAT Engineer concerned, please don’t hesitate to contact us at info@prioryconsultants.co.uk or www.prioryconsultants.co.uk
Training tomorrow, so it should be another good day
More school issues
Posted on 08/31/10 by blogYou can tell it’s the school holidays – it appears every PAT Tester is working in schools at the minute.
Still coming across really bad workmanship, but this time in Leeds.
The first thing I noticed was the sheer number of old PAT labels left on the appliances. Not only was it ugly and untidy, but they were everywhere. At least if they are positioned one on top of another it is possible to keep them relatively tidy, but these were all over the appliances – top, back, sides and even underneath. 5 years worth of labels from 3 different companies.
It makes me wonder, if this is what the Engineer is prepared to do with the simple task of labelling, what corners has he cut with his inspecting and testing?
Other issues included incorrect fuses i.e. not BS1362, or even the wrong colour e.g. 3A fuses in blue instead of red.
Also there were a lot of un-insulated plugtops. I know there isn’t a specific requirement to change plugs of this type, but I think it is good practice as it adds an additional level of safety in an environment full of vulnerable people.
Ceiling projectors
Posted on 08/27/10 by blogHave seen some very worrying standards this week regarding projectors, interactive white boards and speaker systems.
Whoever had installed them seem to have no idea about electrical safety. For example, a Class 1 projector and Class 2 speakers ‘spliced’ together and being fed by a Class 2 lead.
I say ‘spliced’ as the wire had simply been twisted together – no sign of an authorised connector – and wrapped in tape.
When investigated further, there were no less than 7 such problems in one school.
Cowboys
Posted on 08/18/10 by blogHi all.
Been carrying out a pat test audit today at a school in London.
What have I found? Well the PAT Testers last year must have rode in on horses because they were certainly cowboys. The number of appliances which had been ‘tested’ but hadn’t been properly inspected was staggering.
A prime example was the video projector in a classroom which had its power lead extended using a bit of sticky tape instead of a suitable connector. If I found this, why didn’t they find it last year?
Anyway, we are training a group of Engineers this week, so it should be a good few days.
